My most recent background is in being a licensed Special Education Teacher in 2022-23. Before that I served as a substitute teacher from time to time. My experience as a bible teacher feels more life long as I have been in ministry for over 20 years mostly as a pastor, Sunday School, and small group facilitator.
What excites you about teaching?
Doing my best to help the students develop what I call their “toolbox” for life, so that whatever life throws at them they have the skills, abilities, and understanding to walk through it and find growth, hope, and progress in life. When students discover the value of a concept and can plug it into life it thrills my heart with joy and motivation to see what the future holds as students become unleashed to pursue their God given callings.
Why are you excited to teach at CCS?
The world around us needs to see Jesus in daily life, it seems to me that the mission of CCS is assisting students in living out a Christian Worldview in every context of life. I love the idea of building God’s kingdom so that each student can find their identity in Jesus so that by faith we can express His love, grace, and truth to the world around us. I appreciate how the focus of CCS is to support and encourage the local church and its purpose in the community.
The best part of following Jesus is:
He imparts life to me every day. In Him I know I am always loved and accepted, and this frees me to be who He created me to be so that I can better love those around me. With Jesus I always feel good about the unknown, I trust that his amazing nature of who He is as revealed in the bible allows me to rest in Him as the future unfolds, and as I participate in life, I rest in the knowledge of knowing He is at work doing what He does best, being God!
Favorite Bible verse: Galatians 2:20 (ESV) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read books, to learn, to discover and make connections. I also love being with my wife and kids doing fun adventures such as escape rooms, out to eats, family vacations, parades, bonfires, cribbage, and even board games now that it seems like they let me win on occasion. Also, I tend to avoid the cat vs. dog battle and choose chickens instead! I love chickens they are fun, give you eggs, and a much entertainment along the way. When family, books, and chickens are not the focus I am building a personal teaching/discipleship ministry centered upon our identity in Christ and what scripture says about it in comparison to what the world offers. Oh, and of course I root for the Minnesota Vikings and anyone who is playing the Packers.
Personal Tidbit:
My family and I have been doing foster care on and off for over 15 years. Currently we have 2 foster kiddos from 2 different families. However, our kiddos come to our home as “medically fragile,” meaning they usually have some major medical condition to care for, my wife is a nurse and instills in our family the ability to do this as a team, it has been so good for all of us to look beyond ourselves and be the hands, feet and heart of Jesus to these kids.
